Seventeen Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) terrorists were caught trying to escape from the Osmaniye T Type Closed Prison located in southern Turkey on Tuesday.

Upon hearing a commotion coming from the ward the prisoners were held in, the prison guards on duty informed the prison administration.

Gendarmerie teams entered the ward and found that the prisoners had drilled holes into the walls. The prisoners were then moved to another ward.

The PKK terrorists formed the hole using brush handles, hangers and a beading surface. All tools were seized as a part of the investigation launched.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the European Union and the United States.

The PKK has been conducting armed violence in the southeastern part of Turkey since 1984. More than 40,000 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in the three-decade long conflict.
