Security forces neutralize 1,101 PKK terrorists in September

Turkish police and military foil many terror plots in the southeast during September's sweep which neutralized over 1000 PKK terrorists

A total of 1,101 terrorists linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were neutralized in the countrywide sweeping operation, jointly conducted by the military and the police in the last month, according to reports.



1063 terrorists were killed and 28 others were seized while the remaining 10 surrended to security forces during the retaliatory operations, carried out between Sep. 1 and 30, reports said.



Over the last 30 days, 506 people were rounded up in search of terrorists, linked to the PKK. Of them, 169 detainees have been arrested for being members of a terrorist organization. Alp Altınörs, deputy co-chair of the People's Democratic Party (HDP), is among the suspects under arrest.



In addition to the slain PKK terrorists, 79 members of security forces -- 49 soldiers, two officers and 28 village guards -- fell martyr during last month's sweeping, reports said.



Car bomb strikes foiled, unexploded bomb deactivated


Security forces have foiled seven car-bomb strikes, attempted by PKK terrorist groups in the provinces of Şırnak, Muş, Van and Hakkari. A total of 13 hand-made explosives were deactivated by the military who were on the alert for the terror strikes across the southeastern provinces of Hakkari, Tunceli, Diyarbakır and Bingöl.



The PKK had carried out a car-bomb strike on a security check point outside the ruling AK Party's provincial office in Van. Fifty-four people, mostly civilians, were injured in the attack, launched on the first day of the Feast of Sacrifice, one of the major holidays on the Islamic calendar.



Pro-PKK civil cervants suspended over 'terror propaganda'


As many as 11, 285 teachers have been suspended for allegedly supporting the PKK as part of the government's purge to clean out in the Education Ministry. Fifteen clerics have been relieved from office on charges of being linked to the PKK during the ongoing operations in Suruç town, Şanlıurfa, while 29 prison guards have been taken by the police in Diyarbakır province in the ongoing investigation against the terrorist organization.



The terrorist organization has also aimed at village guards for their refusal to aid and abet PKK strikes. Eight village guards and two soldiers fell martyr when PKK has targetted Gökçebudak village in the countryside of Van province.



Elsewhere in the Southeast, in Çukurca town, Hakkari, seven soldiers fell martyr and 20 others suffered injuries when they became a target for a PKK attack on their way to an operation site the rural area of Çukurca. The military responded heavily to the strike and 104 PKK members have been neutralized in a subsequent operation.
