Terror attack in southeast Turkey kills 3 security officials

A bomb attack by the outlawed PKK terrorist in Şırnak province, where counterterror operations entered are in the fourth week, killed three soldiers, leaving two others with injuries

At least three military personnel were killed and two others were injured in the Cizre district of southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak when PKK militants attacked an armored vehicle carrying them on Sunday.



According to security sources, members of the terrorist group detonated pre-planted explosives as the vehicle passed through a road in the city during a counterterror operation.



Security forces, including military and police units, have been conducting a “sweeping operation” in the region to purge the area of PKK terrorist, who disrupted public order attacking schools, hospitals, mosques and public buildings.



At least 148 terrorist have been killed during the operation which is now in its fourth week. The local government had declared a curfew in some neighborhoods of the district earlier this month to close the ditches dug by the terrorists and clear the barricades on the roads.



As many as 155 roadblocks were removed, 124 handmade explosives detonated and 567 houses were searched during the operation.



The PKK is an armed militant group that has been carrying out terror attacks mostly in southeastern Turkey since the early 1980s. The group is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, NATO, the U.S. and EU.
