The number of people, who have been killed due to the swine flu, have been increasing day by day. Turkish Health Minister Mehmet Müezzinğolu said: “The number of people who have died from swine flu this year increased to 33, but all of those people had chronic disease and we can not talk about an epidemic.”

People with chronic disease have a weaker immune system, which makes them more susceptible to catching any flu.

On Monday, March 23, Müezzinoğlu said that 366 patients out of 4,300 suffering from influenza were diagnosed with H1N1 virus.

In 2009, swine flu surfaced in Turkey. Pigs transfered this type of flu strain to humans; eventually it mutated into a virus transmitted between humans. Fever, coughing, a sore throat and joint pains are symptoms of the swine flu, which is an airborne virus that can spread by sneezing and coughing. Health officials recommend washing hands often and avoiding close proximity to people that seem to be affected by the virus. It could cause death among pregnant mothers and infants, as well as people afflicted with chronic illnesses or a weak immune system.
