Turkish military aircraft launched airstrikes against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) bases in northern Iraq.

The warplanes carried out strikes on 27 PKK targets including shelters and bunkers in Zara and Gara regions, the army said.

The strikes were conducted between 21:58 pm and 23:46 pm late Friday in a response to immediate intelligence.

The planes returned to base safely.

PKK's ceasefire with the Turkish government broke down nearly a year ago. Since then, clashes have escalated and the Turkish air force carries out raids on PKK terror camps both within Turkey and in northern Iraq.

Turkey and its allies in the the EU and US consider PKK a terrorist organization.

The military has imposed curfews on parts of southeastern Turkey as part of its action against the PKK threat. More than 500 members of Turkey's security forces have since been killed. A total of 7,078 terrorists have been eliminated since the beginning of the country's counter-terror operations on July 24.
