Turkish warplanes hit PKK targets in Northern Iraq

Airstrikes target caves, arsenals and PKK shelters in Qandil, Haqurk and Avaşin regions of Northern Iraq; another operation targets suburban area of Turkish Şırnak province

Turkey has launched air operations on Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets in Qandil, Haqurk and Avaşin regions of Northern Iraq. A second operation was also conducted to strike targets in Şırnak province of southeastern Turkey.



The operation, which conducted with four F-16 and 14 F-4 2020 warplanes, started at 23:00 pm on Friday and completed at 01:40 am Saturday.



The Turkish Armed Forces said the airstrikes targeted caves, arsenals and PKK shelters in the three regions.



The air operation was conducted following intelligence indicating the locations of the terrorists



Turkish forces also hit the PKK targets in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak based on intelligence received.



The bombardment was conducted between 6:10-6:25 pm on Friday and 02:50 - 02:55 am on Saturday, targeting the Güneyçam suburb of the city.



Both of the bombardments were carried out with two F-4 2020 warplanes and all targets were destroyed.



Turkey's intense fight against PKK



Turkey has been intensively fighting against PKK terrorist both through air and land and air operations in southeastern Turkey and Northern Iraq since July 2015.



The Qandil region of Northern Iraq is known to be the main base for PKK terrorists.



More than 5,000 terrorists have been neutralized both in Turkey and Northern Iraq, according to the recent official Turkish figures.
