A television show that was broadcasted in 2014 on a channel shut down because of links to FETÖ depicted the assassination of Russia's ambassador to Turkey.
The show, called “Regiment Devoted Spirits-Team 1," aired its 89th episode in December, 2014, which contained a scene strikingly similar to the assassination of Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov.
Words uttered by the assassin in the show resemble the words of Karlov's killer.
The assassin, who was a painter in the show, gathers his team at an art exhibition and declares: “We are here for a cause. The ambassador will not leave here alive. No matter what happens, we will fight and die if necessary."
These words share a striking resemblance to the words uttered by Karlov's assassin, Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, who, after shooting Karlov, said, “Move away from here, I will not leave alive."
The assassination in the show takes places one day before a summit, just like Karlov's assassination.
In the show, the assassin explains to the ambassador that he will be assassinated in order to prevent an agreement from being signed.
“We will be destroyed if tomorrow's agreement is signed. Nobody can hold back Turkey, it will become the Middle East's rising star. The West and this country should cut ties," the assassin character says.
Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead at an art exhibition in Ankara on December 20, one day before a trilateral summit in Moscow between Russia, Turkey and Iran. The summit was a platform to discuss how to end the Syrian civil war.
Karlov was assassinated as evacuations of civilians and opposition fighters from Syria's Aleppo to Idlib were proceeding. After shooting Karlov, Altıntaş yelled, “Aleppo will be accounted for."
In the television show, a waiter at the exhibition takes out a gun and tries to shoot the ambassador, but is gunned down by the police. The armed painter then takes out his gun, but is also gunned down by police. A woman who pretends to be the ambassador's lover, but is secretly also an assassin, tries to kill the ambassador in the car upon leaving the exhibition. The woman kills the chauffeur and two police before trying to kill the ambassador. “It's not about you. I have to prevent the agreement. I'm going to kill you and cause a crisis between the countries [Turkey and Russia]," she tells the ambassador.
