A village guard was martyred in a suspected PKK terror attack in southeastern Diyarbakır province on Monday, according to a police official.

Ferit Kaçar, a security guard for Gündoğan village, was returning from Yokuşlu Gendarmerie Station after delivering supplies, when the PKK terrorists targeted him in the province’s Dicle district.

An operation has been launched to nab the assailants.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015. Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
