The first-hand information, which unfolded in the aftermath of the military operation, began streaming in at 4 a.m. on Wednesday and continued with a great determination, brings light to the main reasons behind the scenes and what Turkey aims to achieve with this operation.

Here are the causes and reasons which have drawn Turkey into Syria in a military operation to enforce the war-torn country's territorial integrity and uproot all terror elements, posing a threat to its border, amid a proxy war, which is trapping global super powers in a stand-off that brought the Middle East to the brink of total destruction.

I -Why Operation Euphrates Shield?

Turkey has designated the area west of the Euphrates River as its red line and publicly declared that any terrorist group will be a threat for its border security when/if they attempt to cross the western bank of the river.

II- What is the main purpose of Operation Euphrates Shield?

Turkish authorities have decided to carry out the military operation for three main reasons as follows:

To prevent terror strikes, believed to have been orchestrated in Syria to hit major targets inside Turkey

To remove the terror quagmire in the war-ravaged country

To protect Syria's territorial integrity and its people's rights

III- Is the Turkish-coordinated offensive legal?

Certainly. It is completely a legal military operation. Turkey has adjusted its rules of engagement to allow its military to enter Syria. Ankara has used its legal rights, listed in the international agreements, to ensure its border security and remove national security threats with which it has coped.

Turkey has said several times that it would reserve its legal rights to protect its border's security. It has conducted Wednesday's offensive against Daesh's stronghold in northern Syria under the rules of engagement.

In June 2015, Turkey declared that it will consider any armed element that approaches its border as a terrorist, foremost Daesh, and will strike for self-protection in accordance with some amendments to the scope of its operations in Syria.

IV- Is there any justification for conducting Operation Euphrates Shield?

Turkey has used its right of self-defense.

The operation has aimed at preventing rocket and mortar strikes launched to Turkey's border towns, from the Syrian territory, controlled by terrorist elements.

The various terror strikes and suicide bombings have struck civilians in the provinces of Van, Gaziantep and Elazig, as well as the Turkish capital, Ankara, and Istanbul's international Ataturk Airport.

The armed forces began the offensive in order to ensure safety of life and property of the Turkish citizens and to prevent any further attempt to violate the country's border.

V- How long will it take to end the Turkish-coordinated offensive?

The operation will continue until the entire terror elements cross back into the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and Jarabulus will be completely cleaned from Daesh.

Turkey has just aimed at eliminating terrorist elements, which posed to be serious threats to its territory.

The operation itself does not mean to be a threat for the Syrian nation, but rather intended to ensure the territorial integrity in the land they live in.
