A suspected PYD/PKK terrorist was arrested in southeastern Turkey, security sources said on Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested in Akçakale, in the southeastern Sanliurfa province, on the border with Syria, said the sources, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to media.

The sources said that during an operation against PYD/PKK terrorists along the Turkish-Syrian border, an unarmed terrorist was arrested.

The suspect, said to be a member of PYD/PKK, was taken to gendarmerie headquarters in Akcakale.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people, including women and children. The PYD is the PKK's Syrian branch.
