Former grand mufti of Jerusalem, Palestine lauds Erdoğan, Turkey

Sheikh Ekrima Sa'id Sabri thanked President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for holding the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) extraordinary summit for Jerusalem. Sabri was the grand mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine from October 1994 to July 2006. President Trump on Dec. 6 formally recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and initiated a plan to move the U.S.'s Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city, which was followed with initiatives by the Turkish president to declare East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital.
