The president of the Badghis Province Council, Abdulmecit Shakib, told the Sunday Pajhwok news agency that the accident happened Saturday around 4 p.m. local time (1130GMT).
He said the bus, with 54 people on board, lost control and overturned while traveling from Ab Kamari, near the border with Turkmenistan, to the center of Badghis province.
It is not yet clear what caused the accident, but a survivor said that heavy rains had destroyed the road in the mountainous region where the bus overturned.
