Daesh militants shelled the Bashiqa camp in the Mosul province of Iraq. Four Turkish soldiers were slightly injured in the attack targeting the camp where troops were deployed.

Turkish troops returned fire on Daesh militants after the attack on base, Turkish officials said.

On December 5, Turkish troops were sent to Mosul's Bashiqa, located 12 kilometers northeast of the center, on routine training exercises as a part of the fight against Daesh.

Turkish-Iraqi relations recently experienced a flare-up of tension when Ankara deployed a battalion military in early December to Bashiqa camp near Mosul city.

The battalion was intended to replace its contingent there in training Peshmerga and national mobilization forces.

However, Iraq reacted to Turkey strongly over the deployment of Turkish troops in Mosul, and the country urged Turkey to withdraw its forces from Bashiqa.

The Iraqi central government also threatened military action against Turkish troops in the camp, but Ankara insisted on a diplomatic solution and sent top officials to Baghdad last week.

Turkey also emphasized that it respects the territorial integrity of Iraq and it has no intention of intervening in Iraq.

After the two countries reached a new agreement, some of the Turkish soldiers moved to an area north of the camp.
