Turkey’s General Security Directorate has completed the training of the first group of female police, the first of its kind in Syria, who is set to assume duties in the Euphrates Shield regions in the northern part of the country.

Turkey trained 5,000 Syrian police officers in the first phase of the training.

Following the first phase, at the Syrian Police Forces and the National Security Command, personnel of the Interior Ministry Security General Directorate trained 90 Syrian policewomen.

The women received training in protocol and maintaining the order and safety of the community, in addition to weapons, close combat and counter-terrorism training.

After a pledge ceremony on Monday, the 90 women officers have officially started their duties that will contribute to the peace and security of the Euphrates Shield regions in northern Syria.

Last year, Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield, which saw the Free Syrian Army, backed by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), clear Daesh from territory in northern Syria between August 2016 and March 2017.
