Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and five others injured in a suspected Daesh attack in Iraq's western Anbar province, military sources said early Monday.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, a colonel from the Iraqi army, Walid al-Dulaimi said that terrorist group Daesh attacked the brigade command in al Kilo region, 160 kilometers west of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar.

Dulaimi said a clash erupted when Daesh militants attacked with machine guns on an army position.

The attack comes amid an ongoing offensive launched by the Iraqi army to recapture Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, from Daesh.

Mosul was overrun -- along vast swathes of territory in both northern and western Iraq -- by Daesh in 2014.
