Hatemongers in several Western countries have been targeting Muslims and mosques after the Paris attacks in which 130 people were killed by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.
The last incident occurred in London on Saturday morning. A man was spotted attempting to set fire to Finsbury Park Mosque in London. The man, who was wearing a hoodie, is thought to have fled the scene after his attempts were unsuccessful.
A police spokesman said after their search for a white male wearing a hoodie over a suspected arson attempt at Finsbury Park mosque the suspect was spotted near the mosque at around 8.30 p.m. last night. The spokesman also stated that "at this early stage police are treating the incident as a hate crime."
Meanwhile, The Independent newspaper reported that anti-Muslim hate crimes increased 300 percent in Britain in the week following the coordinated attacks in Paris.
Cold Lake Mosque in Alberta, a western province of Canada, became another scene of attacked on Saturday morning. The words "Go home" were written multiple times across the exterior of the building in red spray paint.
However, dozens of community members came together after the incident in order to clean up the graffiti and offer support to the Muslims in the area.
The mosque was previously vandalized in October 2014, when its front windows were broken and the words "go home" and "Canada" were spray-painted in red on the exterior of the building.
Meanwhile, a hateful letter from the group called “Christian state” was sent to the major Belgian mosque, Attadamoune on Friday. The letter was found in the mosque's mailbox by Jamal Habbachich, one of the local Muslim leaders and the president of Molenbeek's mosque association. The group threatens all Muslims will be killed, and their businesses destroyed. It is further stated in the letter that “no mosque and none of your businesses will be safe,” threatening that “brothers will be slaughtered like pigs and crucified as our Lord converts their souls.”
