Over 400 Congolese immigrants who were illegally living in Angola have been deported back to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to a security officer in eastern DRC, Ivan Kongolo, the Congolese were handed over to DRC authorities at the border of the two countries.

Kongolo told Anadolu, "428 of our nationals who have been illegally living in Angola have been handed to us by Angolan authorities. We are going to help them to get resettled in the villages.’’

He said that the illegal migrants were arrested by Angola authorities in the Cabinda Province especially the villages of Yema, Massabi, Chiobo and Chingundo border points.Cabinda province is at border with DRC. Some of them had reportedly started getting involved in illegal mining in Angola.

Hundreds of Congolese fled to neighboring countries due to clashes between government troops and militiamen. The Catholic Church in DRC recently said that 3000 people were killed since August last year and over 1 million displaced due to clashes in Kasai region.
