A Russian warship passed through Istanbul's Bosphorus strait en route to the Black Sea on the morning of May 6 amid heightened security.

The Russian Navy's large landing ship "Caesar Kunikov" passed through the strait with heavy Turkish coast guard and police security.

Two Turkish coast guards vessels, an Istanbul Police department vessel and police helicopter accompanied the Russian naval ship.

After several provocative activities by the Russian military while passing through Turkey's strait, security concerns were placed at the highest level.

Turkish authority harshly criticized an incident in which the same ship had soldiers on deck holding rocket launchers on their shoulders while passing through the Bosporus on December 6 of last year.

Since then, several similar provocations have been staged by Russian navy in the Bosphorus as Turkey's authority strengthened security and took extra measures for Russian battle ships.
