Turkish FM discusses ceasefire across Syria with Iranian FM

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Cevad Zarif over the phone on Tuesday.

They discussed preparations for a possible meeting about Syria to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Çavuşoğlu also spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov about Syria.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed his "readiness" to provide a platform for talks about Syria in order to solve the long-standing crisis.

Syria has suffered a civil war since 2011. The Assad regime has cracked down on both opposition fighters and civilians.
