Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a press conference on Thursday in the Turkish city of Antalya's Alanya district with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

On his part, Çavuşoğlu said that Turkey and Russia can resolve many regional problems if they act together, adding that Turkey's position on Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad is clear.

Turkey and Russia do agree on an Aleppo ceasefıre

Speaking about operations in Aleppo, Lavrov said, “Russia will continue its operations in eastern Aleppo and will rescue the Syrian city from terrorists.”

Çavuşoğlu said he and Lavrov had agreed on the need for a ceasefire in Aleppo and the rest of Syria, although he said Turkey's stance on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was clear.

Russia is a main backer of Assad, while Turkey supports the opposition fighting to oust him. The opposition have come under siege in eastern Aleppo after rapid advances by Syrian government forces, bringing them to the brink of a major defeat.
