Turkey’s European Union minister will pay an official visit to Estonia, which currently holds the EU presidency, it was announced on Tuesday.

Ömer Çelik will meet Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Foreign Affairs Minister Sven Mikser, and Chairman of parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson.

Celik's visit to Tallinn on Wednesday has significant importance ahead of high-level EU meetings in Brussels. The European Council will gather EU government heads on Thursday.

The council has said one of the items of its agenda will be relations with Turkey in the framework of foreign policy issues, together with migration.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Monday the bloc would strengthen cooperation with Turkey on issues "related to regional dynamics".

On Monday, the foreign ministers of EU member states discussed in Luxemburg how the EU and Turkey can "coordinate better" on Syria and Iraq.

Celik in Tallinn will also deliver a speech at the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute, entitled Europe, Our Common Future: A Turkish Perspective.
