London Mayor Sadiq Khan criticized the U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom severely, and said their government would not welcome Trump by rolling out the red carpet. Trump, following the petitions organized by hundreds of thousands of people who opposed his visit, postponed his visit indefinitely.
Khan, in an interview to CNN, said, “State visits are different from a normal visit and at a time when the President of the USA has policies that many in our country disagree with, I am not sure it is appropriate for our government to roll out the red carpet. “
The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Theresa May invited Trump to the UK during her official visit to the U.S. last October. However, The Telegraph said in a Washington-sourced article that the date of the visit had not been agreed upon yet. The U.S. President Donald Trump was reported to have postponed his visit due to the current negative atmosphere against him among British people.
Hundreds of thousands of people in the UK attended the petition organized to prevent Trump’s visit.
Khan said that in case of such visit, he would do his part.
Khan, a short while back, severely criticized Trump’s imposing a travel ban for mainly Muslim countries.
