The US and UK have carried out airstrikes on Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz, the Houthi group said late Sunday.

“US-UK aggression targets Taiz governorate,” Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV reported.

A website affiliated with the group said “US-UK aggression warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on various areas in Taiz.”

Neither the channel nor the website mentioned any casualties or material damage.

The US and UK have not released any statements on the strikes so far.

Within a civil war that has seen a cease-fire for about two years, the legitimate government and the Houthis share control of Taiz, the largest province in Yemen in terms of population density.

Since the beginning of 2024, a coalition led by the US has been conducting airstrikes that it said are targeting Houthi locations in parts of Yemen in response to attacks by the group on shipping in the Red Sea. The counterattacks have been occasionally met with retaliation from the group.

In solidarity with Gaza, which is facing a devastating Israeli offensive, the Houthis have targeted Israeli cargo ships or those associated with Tel Aviv in the Red Sea with missiles and drones, expressing their determination to continue operations until the end of the war on the enclave.

With the intervention of Washington and London and an escalation of tensions, the Houthis announced that they consider all American and British ships military targets.
