Turkey conducted 37,310 military operations and neutralized 20,636 terrorists in 2016.
Security operations were conducted to ensure peace and security, targeting the separatist terror groups (PKK/KCK), left-wing terror groups (such as DHKP/C, TKP/ML, MLKP) and religious extremists (Daesh, El Nusra and Al-Qaeda).
According to information gathered by the police and gendarmery authorities, 31,234 gendarmerie and 6,076 police officers conducted the military operations across Turkey. In total, police forces neutralized 19,591 terrorists and the gendarmery authorities neutralized 1,045 terrorists.
Out of the neutralized terrorists, 16,753 were part of separatist terror groups, 947 were part of left-wing terror groups and 2,936 were part of religious extremist groups.
Police forces neutralized 15,831 terrorists who were members of separatist terror groups.
A total of 317 heavy weapons, 2,152 long-barreled guns, 830 guns, 1,587 hunting rifles and 2,150 hand grenades were seized in operations by the police force and gendarmery authorities.
The operations also resulted in 289,836 kilograms of explosives being seized. A various assortment of bullets, a total of 641,617, were seized.
In the year 2016, as a result of the preventative actions of authorities, 492 terror attacks planned to be carried out with 20 vehicles loaded with bombs and 472 hand grenades were prevented.
In the operations carried out by police teams, 6,394 detained suspects were arrested.
