Two countries have strongest friendship, maintaining good relations despite distance, says Japan's ambassador to Türkiye

A university in Türkiye's Canakkale province hosted the 27th edition of Japan Days on Monday as part of the 100th anniversary of Turkish-Japanese diplomatic relations.

The event at Canakkale Onsekiz Mart University included speeches by Japan's ambassador to Türkiye, Takahiko Katsumata, highlighting the longstanding educational and cultural ties between the two countries.

“Türkiye and Japan, which have the strongest bonds of friendship in the world despite a distance of 10,000 kilometers (6,214 miles) between them, maintain good relations,” Katsumata said.

“They try to help each other, especially in difficult times like earthquakes and disasters. I want to mention that we have the most fitting connection to the phrase ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed',” he stressed.

“This year, various cultural and academic activities are organized in both Japan and Türkiye to celebrate our relationship,” he added.

He also stressed that the 27th Japan Days is “one of the most important cultural activities.”

Katsumata praised the university's role in training graduates who contribute to Turkish-Japanese cooperation in various fields.

The celebration featured cultural showcases including traditional performances and exhibitions symbolizing the strong friendship between Türkiye and Japan.

The event concluded with a concert and the distribution of Japanese calendars, emphasizing ongoing collaboration and mutual appreciation.
