The Strait of Hormuz will reopen for transit only when transit revenues are used to compensate for damages from the war, Iran's presidential office said Sunday. The statement comes as the US-Israeli offensive on Iran enters its fifth week, with the strategic waterway effectively closed since early March.
A US-Israeli strike targeted Iran's Qom-Tehran highway early Friday, Mehr news agency reported, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage. The attack comes a day after strikes destroyed the strategic B1 bridge in Karaj, north of Tehran, killing eight people and wounding 95.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Thursday that the struggle for oil and carbon fuels in the past century will be replaced by water as competition for power intensifies. "The signs of this struggle are already visible in the armed conflicts taking place around the region," he warned.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his greetings to Türkiye's Jewish citizens for the Passover holiday, wishing that the holiday brings "peace, stability, prosperity, and well-being to our region and all humanity." The message reflects Türkiye's tradition of recognizing religious holidays of all communities.
Turkish supporters flooded Taksim Square waving flags and celebrating after the national team qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Kosovo 1-0 in the European Qualifiers play-off final on April 1. The victory secured Türkiye's place in the global tournament.
