The attack on Turkish military in northern Syria, which had martyred 3 soldiers and injured 10 others, was carried out by Assad forces, Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) said in a statement on Thursday.

An earlier report claimed that soldiers were martyred by an attack carried out by Daesh terrorist organization.

But a statement later released by TAF said it thought the attack had been carried out by the Syrian government forces.

The attack is thought to have been carried out by Syrian government forces, TAF said in a released statement.

The Turkish military has been assisting the Free Syrian Army forces in northern Syria under the operation Euphrates Shield against Daesh and YPG terrorist organization.

TAF said the attack was carried out at 3:30 a.m. local time on a Turkish military position north of Al-Bab, a strategic city of northern Syria under the sizer of Daesh terrorist group. .

The attack comes exactly one year after the Turkish military downed a Russian jet near the Syrian border. Both incidents happened on November 24.

The operation Euphrates Shield was launched on Aug. 24 to protect the Turkish border from the terror group and drive them away from Syrian cities across the border.

The joint forces have cleared around 1,800 sq km areas in northern Syria so far, and are advancing towards the south.

Turkey said the aim of the operation was to clear around 5,000 sq km areas from the terror group.
