July 15 Coup Attempt Mehmet Güder

Mehmet Güder

The martyr Mehmet Güder was the manager of the restaurant named Ziya Şark Sofrası in Fatih. He had 4 grandchildren. He went to Vatan Avenue as soon as he heard of the coup attempt, telling his employees, “When are we going to protect our country if we can’t protect it now?” He joined the crowd stopping the helicopter which was trying to land on the street. He was shot by the helicopter in his shoulder and head. He was martyred on the spot.

The martyr’s son Halil İbrahim Güder said that his father talked with his mother on the phone before he left the restaurant. They were not able to reach his father afterwards and they learned about his father’s martyrdom from a police officer.

“Take good care of my grandchildren”

A funeral was held for the martyr Güder in the Fatih Mosque. After the funeral, he was buried in the Küçükçekmece Cennet Graveyard.
Halil İbrahim Güder, son of the Martyr Güder, said that his father would always say, “Take good care of my grandchildren if I die and pay my debts.”

The martyr was born in Tokat in 1965. He lived in Tokat until he was 23 and then came to work in Istanbul. Güder earned his living by working as a waiter in Florya. He, then, became the manager of the Ziya Şark Sofrası in Fatih.

The name of Martyr Mehmet Güder was given to an Anatolian Imam Hatip high school in Küçükçekmece.
