Dursun Acar, who was working in Ankara on the night of July 15th as the Special Operations Department Education Branch Director, was martyred in the bombing after midnight. A father of two daughters, he told his family during one holiday that he wanted to be a martyr.

Acar who was in the Special Operations Department Headquarters during the FETÖ coup attempt met with his brother Necati Acar, half an hour before the attack, acted out by terrorists disguised as soldiers. Acar was martyred after the first bombing at 00:15. Necati Acar said his brother wanted to be a martyr and it was during the most recent holiday that they had met for the last time.

Martyr Dursun Acar was buried in the Yusufeli district of the city of Artvin on Monday, July 18th.

The 44-year-old was working as the Special Operations Department Education Branch Director. He had two daughters, aged 13 and 17.He worked in Erzurum, Trabzon, İzmir, Ardahan, and Kars.

The name of Martyr Dursun Acar was given to a middle school in Gaziemir, İzmir.

Gölbaşı Special Operations Headquarters was among the places that the putschists targeted first on the night of July 15. Putschists deployed warplanes to attack the Special Operations Headquarters as they believed they would be faced with fierce resistance from police. Seventeen police were martyred in the first attack.

Of the 248 citizens killed in the coup attempt, 70 were soldiers and policemen. The 171 martyrs who came to the streets to repel the coup were civilian citizens of different professions.
