Hüseyin Güntekin

Hüseyin Güntekin, who served his military service in Mount Judi fighting against terrorists, resisted against the terrorists disguised as soldiers on the night of July 15th. He was martyred by being shot in front of the Ankara Police Headquarters.

The martyr Güntekin, learning of the traitorous coup attempt by FETÖ members, left his house around midnight. He moved towards the Provincial Police Headquarters, where a shootout was occurring. At 1:55 AM, he talked with his brother-in-law on the phone for the last time, “They are driving tanks into people.” Güntekin, who was in the middle of the crossfire for 35 minutes after the call, was the target of FETÖ members’ bullets. He reached martyrdom in the morning after he was brought to the hospital at 02:35 AM.

His coffin wrapped in the Turkish flag was brought to the Ahmet Efendi Mosque and he was buried later in the Karşıyaka Graveyard.

43-year-old Hüseyin Güntekin, who was known as a person who loved his country, earned his living as a butcher.

Ankara Police Headquarters, which was one of the putschists’ targets, was attacked from land and air. Four riot control vehicles attempted to prevent the tanks from progressing. Following this, putschists attacked from the air. Pilot İlhami Aygül bombed Ankara Police Headquarters on the order of putschist Capt. Mustafa Mete Kaygusuz.

In the 15 July resistance, a total of 248 people, from 59 provinces, fell as martyrs. The five cities that had the most martyrs were Ankara, Istanbul, Yozgat, Çorum and Rize .
