Lokman Oktay, who ran to the Bosphorus Bridge as soon as he heard about the July 15th coup attempt told his friends, “I’m going, if I don’t come back, that means I’ve been martyred.”
There were so many attendees at the martyr’s funeral that they didn’t fit into the mosque, so the funeral was taken into the streets with everyone chanting ‘God is the greatest’. After the funeral, the 52 year old was buried in the Umraniye Kocatepe Martyrs’ Graveyard.
Police Officer Burak Oktay accepted the condolences for his father.
The name of martyr Lokman Oktay was given to a middle school in Umraniye, Istanbul.
