On July 15, 39-year-old Tahsin Gerekli, who went to the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality building to resist the FETÖ traitors, was martyred in Vezneciler. Gerekli, who was married with five children, was a textile worker.
“He rushed out as soon as he heard about the attempt”
Nuri Gerekli, the martyr’s father, states, “On the night of July 15, my son went out with his friends as soon as they heard the news, and first went to the Bayrampaşa Riot Squad, then to Vatan Street, and then to the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality building in Saraçhane. He fell a martyr there, resisting the FETÖ terrorist organization. We got the news of his death at 02.30 a.m. My son achieved martyrdom. May God rest his soul. May God protect our country and our people.”
Martyr Tahsin Gerekli was buried in the Edirnekapı Martyr’s Cemetery, after the prayers done at Şirinevler Ulu Mosque.The martyr’s name was given to an Imam Hatip middleschool in Avcılar, İstanbul.
