The General Assembly of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors urgently convened to address the “parallel structure” members and decided to unseat five members of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors in accordance with the Ankara Public Prosecutor’s detention warrant. The 2nd Chamber of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors sidelined a total of 2,745 judges, with 541 of them being in the first instance administrative justice and 2,204 of them being in the first instance judicial justice.

Some of the detained members of the of the Council of State were brought to the Ankara Police Department. Coup plotters were made to wait at the gymnasium of the Ankara Police Department’s Anti-Terrorism Branch Directorate. Some of the tanks used in the coup attempt were pulled to the garden of the Police Department.

On July 16, Council of State President Zerrin Güngör called all the members of the council to the service building in order to announce that they were against the coup. The members gathered at the Presidency of the Council of State to go to the hall. Ten of the members were issued with detention orders and police detained them while they entered.

After the coup attempt was prevented, nationwide operations were conducted targeting the putschists and many of them were taken into custody. President Erdoğan came to Istanbul from the Dalaman Airport and spent the night at the State Guest House at the Atatürk Airport. Then, he went to his house in Kısıklı, Üsküdar. He was greeted by “God is the greatest” exclamations by people who had been waiting in front of his house. When President Erdoğan saw people, who had been waiting for him, holding Turkish flags in front of his house, he got out of the car and shook their hands.

President Erdoğan, who was in Marmaris on the night of the coup attempt, having left just before the assassination team that went to kill him arrived, first went to Dalaman and then Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport. In response to the crowd chanting “stand tall, don’t bow,” Erdoğan said: “Don’t worry. We only bow before God. It doesn’t befit us to bow down before anyone else. There’s no such thing in our principles.”
President Erdoğan addressed the crowd that had gathered in Kısıklı, Üsküdar to show their reaction to the FETÖ coup attempt.
President Erdoğan also said: “Brothers, I first have to mention this. These incidents have been orchestrated by a minority within the armed forces, not by the Turkish Armed Forces itself. They were a tumor within the Turkish Armed Forces. Now, the tumor is being cleansed.”
Asserting that Turkey fears no “parallel state structure”, President Erdoğan said: “Now, I want to address the U.S. I’m addressing the president of the U.S. Mr. President, I previously asked for the repatriation of the person living on 400-decare of land in Pennsylvania. I informed you that they were planning a coup, but I couldn’t make you heed my warning. Today I am repeating my call after this coup attempt: Repatriate the person in Pennsylvania to Turkey!”
