Muharrem Kerem Yıldız went into the streets to resist against putschist soldiers after the call of the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the night of the coup attempt. Yıldız joined a crowd and walked towards the Bosphorus Bridge chanting “God is the greatest”. He was shot by a single bullet in the head and martyred on the spot.

Muharrem, who was born in Giresun in 1987, worked as a sales representative in a technology firm and was preparing for his marriage. He was known to be really sensitive about martyrs.

Mehmet Kerim Yıldız, the father of Muharrem Kerem Yıldız, said that he talked with his son on the phone a couple of times after he left the house. After a while though, he was unable to reach his son on the phone. A stranger answered Muharrem’s phone at around 4:00 AM and said, “the owner of this phone has been shot.” Mehmet Yıldız found his son injured, in the Okmeydanı State Hospital. Yıldız died a martyr’s death at 3:30 in the afternoon, at the age of 26. He was buried in the Kilyos Graveyard on Sunday, July 17th.

Mehmet Yıldız said that the doctors were unable to remove the bullet from his son’s head and they still don’t know who shot their son. Yıldız added that he wants the putschist soldiers to be executed.

The name of Martyr Muharrem Kerem Yıldız was given to an Imam Hatip middle school in Sarıyer, Istanbul.

News of one of the bloodiest nights in Turkey, the July 15 coup attempt, first spread with the disturbance on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Bosporus Bridges. Citizens realizing that both bridges were occupied by traitor FETÖ soldiers resisted, saying: “We won’t surrender this land to you”, on the call of President Erdoğan to the public to claim the streets.
