July 15 Coup Attempt Muhsin Kiremitçi

Muhsin Kiremitçi

Muhsin Kiremitçi was martyred on the same day he started working in the Gölbaşı Special Operations Department Headquarters, which was bombed by FETÖ members on the night of July 15th. His wife had been pregnant for 8 months when he died. Muhsin also had a 28 year old daughter, named Gökçe.

Muhsin studied electricity in vocational high school and had the 2nd best degree in university exams. After he wasn’t accepted into the department of Mechatronics in university, due to a coefficient problem in the exams, he decided to become a police officer. Before he was martyred, he had served in Gümüşhane, Isparta, Cizre and Kobani borders, and became a deputy inspector after receiving his education. Unfortunately, he was martyred on his first day of work.

His body was found 3 days later

Muhsin left his house as soon as he was called in to work and he left his 23 year old wife, who had been pregnant for 8 months, to their neighbours. He was martyred after the second bomb attack dropped on the Special Operations Department Headquarters. He was taken to the morgue of a Maternity Hospital in Ankara. The family did not think of the possibility of his body being in a morgue of a maternity hospital and so could not locate his body for 3 days. His brothers eventually found his body based on information received from a colleague of Muhsin’s and they were able to finally identify him with a DNA test.
His wife Seda Kiremitçi, was very resilient and did not even need a sedative after receiving the devastating news. The 3 days of waiting and not locating the body, prepared them for such news.

“He never heard our baby’s heartbeat”

Seda described the moments when she held her baby for the first time, "My baby was so white. I only wanted my husband to wait for me outside of the delivery room and be with me when I came out with my baby. I wanted ordinary things. He never heard our baby’s heartbeat. I wish he would at least hear my baby’s heartbeats. When I held my baby, I felt empowered and protective. I thought ‘my husband is protecting us.’ I never let myself go thinking that I should protect my baby. Our baby is a piece of us, she needs us. We went shopping together for the last time and I got cold and tired quickly so we left. We weren’t even able to buy anything, I wish we had bought at least something together.”

"Gökçe, can you see your father, honey?"

Seda said she doesn’t see her husband as “gone”, "I wish my husband saw these days. I never took my baby to the cemetery since I still feel like my husband is here. If martyrs don’t die, he would definitely be with us here. When I ask my baby, ‘Gökçe, can you see your father, honey? Is your father calling you “my sweet bird”?’ Her breathing gets faster and she smiles. She sleeps with his smell. I washed all of my husband’s clothes except for only one suit he wore to the work that day. Her father’s shirt is the only thing we have. I put that shirt beside her whenever I want her to smell her father. She reacts when I say “sweet bird”, I can feel it. I’m worried that the smell on his shirt will fade one day. I’m trying to protect that smell as much as I can.”

Muhsin was buried in Konya on Friday, July 22nd. The name Martyr Muhsin Kiremitçi was given to an imam hatip middle school in Isparta.
